Sona Roy
A graduate of Master in Development Management (MDM) from Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Philippines in 1994.
He was born at Sehara village of Barddhaman district, West Bengal, India into a family background of traditional healers and educators. From his childhood, Sona already had this great enthusiasm for Ayurveda and a passion for practicing Yoga, as his great grandfather and grandfather were well-regarded doctors and educators. Such genetic lineage and wanting to become an Ayurveda practitioner are reflective of his passion for holistic health endeavors.
He worked in Africa as a missionary for 12 years from 1979 to 1991. He was involved in relief operations in famine-affected Ethiopia from 1983- 1985, the worst famine to hit the country in a century. He moved to the Philippines in 1991 and worked for ABS-CBN Foundation for 20 years from 1992-2012. He carried out relief operations after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales and other typhoon-affected areas in the Philippines. He established ABS-CBN EcoVillage in Iba as a resettlement project for the victims of Mt. Pinatubo in 1993 with a vision of building a self-sufficient community. He founded Abs-Cbn Bayan Microfinance in 1997 to give access to micro-credit to the marginalized farmers for agricultural production and to the poor women for livelihood without collaterals.
He organized Farmers Cooperatives for agriculture and local economy development in Zambales. Mango Farmers Development Cooperative (ZAMFARDECO) started Zambales Mango Festival in 2000. As a board member of the Dairy Confederation of the Philippines (Dairycon), he conducted a strategic planning workshop in Iba to prepare “A Road Map for National Daily Industry” in the Philippines in 2004. He started Eco-Camp program in Ecovillage, Iba, Zambales in 2005 for promoting environmental awareness and Ayurveda lifestyle among youths and school children around the world.
He co-founded Shanti Ayurveda Center in 2013 and currently the Chairman & CEO of the Company. He is also one of the founders of Ayurveda Association of Southeast Asia in 2014 and currently the Chairman of the Board. He founded Shanti Institute of Ayurveda in the year 2016 and currently the Chairman and President of the Institute.
He studied and researched on Ayurveda lifestyle principles from Vagbhata Sutra for six years. He has designed “Ayurveda Lifestyle” course to provide opportunities to deepen your awareness of Ayurveda way of life that have been practiced for thousands of years and to understand how these ancient teachings are relevant today in your day-to-day life and well-being goals. He teaches Ayurveda lifestyle to the children, families and communities for building a better world for all!
